This Month in 1951
Spruce Avenue Community League is celebrating our 75th Anniversary in 2026. To bring you back to the year that it all began, here are some fun facts from this month in 1951.

Canadian troops fight in the Korean War, which started on 25 June 1950, when North Korean troops invaded South Korea. United Nations forces soon joined the fighting, which would rage until an armistice was signed on 27 July 1953. More than 26,000 Canadians served on land, at sea and in the air during this bitter conflict. Sadly, 516 Canadians died. Long seen as a forgotten war, the Korean War is now recognized as an important chapter in Canada's military history.

Community Garden Update
Exciting things are growing in Spruce Avenue! Planning is underway for the revival of our community garden—a shared space where residents can grow fresh produce, connect with neighbours, and enjoy the outdoors.
We need your help! The community league has partnered with NAIT students to redesign the garden, and we’re looking for volunteers to help bring the space to life. Work dates are still to be confirmed, but if you’re interested in getting your hands dirty, please email garden@spruceavenuecommunity.com
More information on garden rentals will be available soon.
