  • Hello SACL members:

We are excited to share that 2026 is the 75th Anniversary of our community league!

Preparations are starting about how we might wish to celebrate this major milestone for the community, including possible programs, events or hall projects.

If you are interested in sharing your ideas and your volunteer time/talents in organizing and delivering project ideas, please connect with SACL's Secretary, Wesley at secretary@spruceavenuecommunity.com. We invite you to join our next monthly meeting on Thursday Mar 19th at 7:30pm (email us for the meeting invite!).

Even if you can't attend the meeting, we'd love to hear from you and understand how you could get involved!  -- Remember that all SACL operations and programs are 100% volunteer powered. We need YOU to help Spruce Ave celebrate our big #75!

  • The Spruce Avenue Community League Board would like to extend a special thank you to Hockey Alberta for their generous donation of $5,000.00 from the ‘Every Kid Every Community Grant Fund’.  This has made it possible to continue the Outdoor Rink Learn to Skate Program (ODR-Core) at the Spruce Avenue Community Rink.

  • The 12th annual community history Jane's Walk in Spruce Ave will be held Friday, May 1st at 7pm. Join us to officially kick-off our league's 75th anniversary celebrations. Stay tuned to our website and social media for sign-up information.

  • Bingo is 6-8 at the hall. Next one is May 29

ARCH Madness

Spruce Avenue School is in the latest edition of ARCH MADNESS - an Instagram tradition by @dan.unsupervised.

Unfortunately the school is listed for an unfortunate reason, this years theme is: Arch Madness 2026 - The Most Threatened Edition.

From the Instagram post (click on the picture for the original)

16 of Edmonton's most iconic threatened historic landmarks, you must decide - by popular vote - which is the most threatened, most culturally significant, most reusable, most architecturally distinct, and most worthy of saving.

This year, you have to answer a nearly unanswerable question: if you could only save one of these historic landmarks, which one would you save? Easy, right?

The futures of these historic landmarks are very much uncertain and time is running out. Who gets saved and who gets smushed? Which building are you chaining yourself to when the excavator comes rolling?

Now, of course, we should save them all, and they can all be saved. It's not all doom and gloom, but the challenges are piling up. We'll explore how and why these landmarks can be rehabilitated and reused as both vibrant and viable parts of our community for years to come.

Arch Madness 2026 has been made possible with support from @yegheritage and from viewers like you.

Choose your favourites, set your notifications, and make your predictions. Let your votes send a message about historic architecture that matters to you and to Edmonton.

Voting begins Saturday, March 7 on Dan’s Instagram in daily polls posted in stories! Make sure you vote!
